Highlights
  • The number of electric light-duty pickups, SUVs and vans registered in 2024 almost reached a million units with an all-time high of 965,000, up 48% compared to 2023. The number of vehicles in these categories collectively surpassed the number of electric sedans and compact cars (935,000 units) for the first time in 2024. There has been a notable shift in customer demand within the ZEV market away from sedans and compact cars (cars) and towards pickup trucks and crossover-SUVs (pickups). In 2024, ZEV pickups, SUVs, and vans made up 51% of light-duty ZEV registrations compared to 43% in 2023 and 34% in 2022.
  • Although electric medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (MHDVs) make up only a small sliver of all ZEV registration, registrations totaled 5,857 vehicles in 2024, an increase of 55% compared to the 3,784 registrations in 2023. However, the percentage growth of new ZEV registrations in 2024 trailed behind 2023’s growth rates across all market segments.
