Highlights
  • The number of ZEVs on-road in California totaled just under 1.9 million in 2024, representing an increase of 25.3% compared to 2023 — but the growth is a slowdown compared to 2023’s increase of 36.5% compared to 2022.
  • Compared to 2023, vehicle registrations of BEVs (+30.3%) and PHEVs (+12.0%) continued to rise, albeit at slower rates. On the other hand, registrations of fuel-cell (hydrogen) electric vehicles (FCEVs), which make up a very small number of ZEVs, fell by about 1,000 vehicles (-7.4%) year-over-year.
