Highlight
  • In 2022, California's carbon intensity of the energy supply (51.9 kg CO2 per million Btu) was almost the same as that of the U.S. (52.1 kg CO2 per million Btu). Compared to 2021, California's carbon intensity dropped 0.9%, while that of the U.S. decreased by 0.7%. 27 states had a greater year-over-year percentage decrease than California. Texas (-0.3%) and Florida (-0.5%), the two next most populous states, had more modest drops than California from 2021 to 2022. On the other hand, carbon intensity of the energy supply increased in New York (+2.9%), Michigan (+2.5 %), and Massachusetts (+0.1%) from 2021 to 2022.
